Dana White Challenges Doubters to Bet Against UFC 249 Happening

Since the UFC officially postponed its next three cards, due to restrictions and dangers tied to the coronavirus, Dana White has said he’ll find a way to make UFC 249 happen. Well, although many people have said they don’t see Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson fighting on April 18th, White’ challenging his doubters to bet against him getting the event done.

White challenges doubters

As more cases of the coronavirus were reported in North America, and jurisdictions started temporarily banning larger public gatherings and implementing travel bans, White said the UFC would find a way to hold its next three cards, As the restrictions became more stringent, however, the promotion had to postpone its March 21st, 28th and April 11th events.

The biggest fight coming up, however, is the aforementioned bout between Nurmagomedov and Ferguson. After all, many believe it could be the greatest lightweight fight of all time. So, White has insisted they’ll hold the event, somewhere.

But, due to the severity of the pandemic, there’s a lot of people who think the postponement of UFC 249 is inevitable. White, however, is still confident he can find a way. While speaking to TSN recently the UFC President made that clear (quotes via MMA Fighting).

“Khabib and Tony is going to happen,” White said. “We’re going to figure that out. We’re going to make it happen and then it’s just going to be a matter of how quickly we can get back to being normal.”

“Listen, again, 10 days ago I’d have told you things for sure. I don’t know,” White said. “I’m sort of rolling with the punches here and have been since the beginning. I can’t honestly answer that question for you.”

“We’re looking at a lot of different things,” White said. “Listen, if you’re a fan, a media member, whatever you might be, do you want to bet against me? You want to bet that I can’t pull stuff off?

“At some point you stop doubting me I’d imagine but maybe not. We’ll see.”

Should you doubt White?

Now, if you’ve followed White over the years, you know that he isn’t quick to give up on something when faced with adversity. After all, White played a key role in Zuffa’s efforts to help grow the UFC and MMA, at a time when a lot of people considered the sport barbaric.

But, unless we get some good news soon on the coronavirus front, right now, it just seems like UFC 249 will need to be delayed.
