Conor McGregor’s Coach Doesn’t See Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson Happening April 18th

Recently the UFC was forced to postpone cards in London, Columbus and Portland due to the coronavirus, but since then, Dana White has insisted that UFC 249 is going to proceed.

Well, recently Conor McGregor’s head coach, John Kavanagh, relayed he doesn’t see the event going down on April 18th. But, if it does, Kavanagh has weighed-in on what the impacts of the pandemic could be on the headliner’s training camps.

Kavanagh discusses camps of Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson, in wake of the coronavirus

As it stands right now, there’s been no official word on where UFC 249 will take place, now that it can’t be hosted by its original location, Brooklyn, New York. White has said that he knows the location of the event. But, since he made that comment, nothing official has been announced.

The coronavirus is not only impacting if and where the UFC can hold events. But, it’s likely having an impact on how fighters are preparing for bouts. After all, fighters need to take extensive precautions so that they don’t contract the virus

While talking about all this recently on Twitter, Kavanagh shared out these comments.

If the April 18th fight happens. Honestly I cant see how it does but let’s be optimistic and say it does then what effect will 4-5 weeks of no real grappling/sparring have. Only focus will be conditioning. Personally I think it’ll have almost zero effect on skill. 1/n

The fighters have 2many years of consistent training for a couple of weeks to have any real effect on technique or timing. I think the only real effect is theyll come in completely injury free. No bruising, no tweaked knees, nothing. That been said I just cant see it happening

Will UFC 249 go through?

So, it’s interesting to see that Kavanagh doesn’t anticipate either Khabib or Tony’s performance being impacted much by any changes they’ve had to make to their camp. It’s hard to argue with that. Khabib and Tony have been training for years and years, so, their technique and skills won’t take a big hit.

As far as UFC 249 taking place, as it stands right now, it is difficult to see it happening on April 18th. That’s just three weeks away now and coronavirus cases continue to climb in the U.S.
