As the world continues to battle the coronavirus pandemic, Conor McGregor is calling on authorities to enact even stricter regulations as a means to slow the spread of the virus.

McGregor shares out fiery PSA

Recently the former UFC champ shared out the video below, in which an emotional and fired up McGregor called on governments to implement a lockdown, so that the pandemic can be slowed (quotes via MMA Junkie).

“While we are all currently debating a full lockdown, I feel that we must,” McGregor said. “Any time spent debating this is needless time from the clock. I know a good, tough fight when I see one, and we have one on our hands now. I want to call upon my people – the great people of Ireland. This fight needs us all. We’re all in the red corner together, awaiting the bell. Let’s gather together and ring the bell ourselves, including the people of the rest of the world. A true lockdown must begin, and it must begin now – a true lockdown together, a lockdown united.”

“We have the advantage here in that we can see this coming,” McGregor said. “We can see this coming. But if we do not act on our advantage, we cannot expect different results. … Ireland, we’ve got this. Not only do we have the formula, we have it ahead of time. Let’s go, Ireland. Let’s go, rest of the world. Lock down united. Together we stand. God bless us all.”

The announcement above comes not long after McGregor called on his fellow citizens to stay “vigilant” in the fight against the virus.

A summer fight for McGregor?

McGregor’s PSA comes at a time when there’s been a lot of speculation as to whether the star could fight this summer. In January, following McGregor’s quick win over Donald Cerrone, Dana White said the former champ would face the winner of the April 18th bout between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson.

McGregor has said, however, that he doesn’t want to wait on the sidelines for that to happen, and recently White relayed the star could fight in the interim.

Of course, what unfolds in the coming weeks with the coronavirus could ultimately determined if McGregor, or any other fighter for that matter, competes anytime soon.
