WWE Changing WrestleMania Matches

WWE Changing Several WrestleMania 36 Matches

By now, WWE usually has their WrestleMania card internally known and it is only a matter of the the matches being made official on TV. As of now, there are reports of some major changes coming, especially with the SmackDown brand.

During the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer spoke on the matter. He stated that five or six matches are being discussed to undergo a change.

“I would say that either every match on the SmackDown match is going to change or is in danger of changing,” said Melter. “I don’t think there’s one that’s solid anymore as far as the Mania thing goes. Everything’s up in the air on SmackDown. I heard the same thing from several people.”

Two matches that could be changing are those involving John Cena and Universal Champion “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt.

Possibile Changes

At one point, the idea was for Cena to challenge Elias; who is currently a face. They have history, with Cena taking out Elias at the two previous WrestleManias. Some are speculating that Cena could get a match against Baron Corbin. Last year, Corbin retired Kurt Angle. Plus, Vince McMahon is high on Corbin and a match against Cena would be a great rub.

As for the Universal Championship match, Wyatt might not walk into the event with his gold. While Goldberg is a long shot to capture the title at Super ShowDown later this week, plans can always change. Roman Reigns is still a favorite to get a title shot at WrestleMania 36, although WWE is deciding if a match against Wyatt or Goldberg is best for business.

As of now, the only confirmed matches are WWE Champion Brock Lesnar vs. Drew McIntyre, NXT Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley vs. Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch taking on the winner of the Elimination Chamber Match. At this point, Shayna Baszler is almost a lock to challenge Lynch.

Keith Lee’s Role

One of the fastest rising stars on any WWE brand is Keith Lee. The NXT superstar has picked up lots of momentum the past few months and his booking shows.

He was the last person person eliminated from the Survivor Series Elimination Match and afterwards, Roman Reigns showed his respect. While Lee did not last long in the Royal Rumble, he was one of the few superstars that was able to hold his own against Brock Lesnar. At one point, fans were thinking that Lee could either win the Rumble or be the one to toss Lesnar over the top rope.

Despite the big push, Lee is not expected to work WrestleMania 36. Meltzer stated that with Takeover Orlando taking place that same weekend, Lee will be busy defending his NXT North American Championship. One week ago, at Takeover Portland, Lee tore the house down in the opening match against another giant in Dominik Dijakovic.

Lee has only been part of NXT for a year, but has received major praise. He is seen has someone who listens, continues to improve, has the crowd’s attention and is well liked by his peers. With Lee’s size and agility, it might only be a matter of time before gets a massive push on the main roster.
