Ohio Church Pays Off $46 Million In Medical Debt For Over 45,000 Families

Crossroads Church in Cincinnati, Ohio made a bombshell announcement on Sunday when it revealed that the church will pay off $46.5 million in medical debt for over 45,000 families. The church aspired to have a greater impact on the community. And they delivered big time!

Medical Debt Wiped Out For Thousands Of Families By Crossroads Church

Crossroads Church teamed up with the medical debt relief nonprofit RIP Medical Debt to wipe out the debt. Their charitable act will help thousands of families living in Ohio, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Indiana. This week, each of the lucky families will receive a bright yellow envelope informing them of the news.

“Churches are at our best when we are a blessing to real people in our communities,” Senior Pastor Brian Tome told Fox News. “We’re not here to just have big Sunday meetings.”

During a sermon back in November, Pastor Tome told his congregation about the once in a lifetime “opportunity to multiply our impact.”

“They’ll get a letter that says, ‘Congratulations, your debt has been paid because someone loves you and there is a God that has not forgotten about you,'” he said at the time.

Grateful Family Writes Letter To Crossroads Church

In the middle of Sunday’s sermon, Pastor Tome read his congregation a letter from one of the families whose debt is being paid off by the church.

“I received this piece of mail in this bright yellow envelope and started to throw it away,” the pastor read. “But when I saw that it said your medical debt has been paid, I thought, ‘seriously, wait a minute.’ When I read it I got emotional – the person continued – because I have been so needing a break with getting my credit together. I really appreciate the gift.”

The Numbers Behind The Debt Wipe Out

FOX 19 reported that the megachurch paid the debts of 41,233 households in Ohio for a total of $42.8 million, 2,974 Kentucky households totaling $1.9 million in debt, 503 Tennessee households for $1.5 million, and 136 Indiana homes for $200,000.

RIP Medical Debt is a nonprofit based in New York. Their website states that “for every $100 donated to RIP Medical Debt, $10,000 in medical debt is wiped out.”

With all the negativity in the world today, it’s nice to be reminded that there are still good people out there doing kind things for one another.

Crossroads Church’s generosity certainly takes the phrase “it’s the Christian thing to do” to an entirely new level.

This church just changed tens of thousands of lives in an instant, and God bless them for it!

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
