By the time Jorge Masvidal and Kamaru Usman end up fighting, it looks like the welterweights are going to have quite the beef. Following weeks of trading verbal shots, Masvidal has taken more pokes at the champ, as he’s claiming Usman was “super-forced” into facing him.

Masvidal claims champ would rather fight “100 other people”

Due to Masvidal’s impressive, 2019 campaign, the rugged vet has been knocking on the title shot door for a while now. “Gamebred” pushed for a big money fight with Conor McGregor, but following the latter’s win at UFC 246, Dana White has said the plan’s to have Masvidal fight Usman.

Well, that news has come at a time when tensions between Masvidal and Usman have been ratcheting up. Not only have they been firing verbal jabs at each other, recently they also had a heated exchange at a Super Bowl event.

More recently Masvidal spoke with Submission Radio, and while discussing the fact White’s said the plan is to book Usman – Masvidal for this summer, he said this (quotes via MMA Junkie):

“He’s super-forced into this fight,” Masvidal said. “Dana said it, and what is he going to do now? So, I don’t think too much of him. So, I don’t want to talk about the guy too much.”

“You would think any champion would want to fight the ‘Fighter of the Year’ in their weight class to extra prove something, to set themselves aside,” Masvidal continued. “This guy wants to fight a guy under me that he already beat, or if not, do fantasy matchups, the guys in Japan or other organizations.

“If that doesn’t let you know what’s going to happen, nothing will. He knows the formula. He knows about me very well. So, there’s a hundred other people he’d rather fight than me.”

It is true that Usman argued that Leon Edwards, and his eight fight winning streak deserve a title shot more than Masvidal. It’s also true that Usman beat Edwards back in 2015. But, does that mean Usman is avoiding Masvidal because he lacks confidence in his abilities to beat “Gamebred”? The champ’s supporters would say no.

Masvidal comments on the recent run-in

And what about the aforementioned run-in Masvidal had with Usman? While talking about the incident, and whether things could have escalated into a physical altercation, the charismatic Masvidal said this:

“Like, stop, man. Everybody’s laughing at you thinking you’re a (expletive) idiot. No one’s going to fight, dude. You’ve got five security guards with you, I’ve got five security guards with me, there’s a barricade. Stop. But that’s who he is. I think he’s got to sell a lot of himself for people to engage with him, because it’s not working.”

There you go. Here’s hoping this fight gets finalized soon. It’s going to be really interesting following the lead-up to it in addition to fight night.
