Harvey Weinstein Judd

Disgraced Hollywood film producer and former top Democratic donor Harvey Weinstein was found guilty today on two of the five charges in his New York trial. Now, a group of Weinstein’s high profile accusers known as the ‘Silencebreakers,’ which includes actresses Ashley Judd and Rosanna Arquette, are speaking out. While Harvey Weinstein awaits his prison sentence, the group is not as happy with the verdict as you might think.

The ‘Silencebreakers’ Respond

The group of women, who call themselves the Silencebreakers, released a statement in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein verdict being announced. The women blasted the jury for not reaching agreement on the final three charges that could have put the fallen movie mogul in prison for life.

The following is a statement in response from 23 #Silencebreakers:

“While it is disappointing that today’s outcome does not deliver the true, full justice that so many women deserve, Harvey Weinstein will now forever be known as a convicted serial predator. This conviction would not be possible without the testimony of the courageous women and the many women who have spoken out. Despite intimidation from Weinstein’s legal team, they courageously shared their stories with the jury, the courtroom and the world. This has been a flawed process from the beginning but has further exposed the difficulties women face in coming forward to tell the truth about powerful abusers.”

“Their bravery will forever be remembered in history. Our fight is far from over. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has brought charges against Weinstein and we hope he will be met with swift justice. As we have said from our very first statement together as Silence Breakers: we refuse to be silenced and will continue to speak out until this unrepentant abuser is brought to justice.”

Harvey Weinstein’s Charges

Weinstein, 67, was found guilty today of third-degree rape in the case of Jessica Mann. And also guilty of first-degree sexual assault in the case of Mimi Haley.

Over the course of the trial, Weinstein maintained his innocence and even touted his role in progressing women’s careers.

The jury, however, found Weinstein not guilty on three other counts. This verdict comes days after jurors told the judge that they were deadlocked. The jurors were then instructed to keep having discussions until a verdict was reached.

The jury’s inability to find Weinstein guilty on the more serious counts is what has the Silencebreakers upset.

Weinstein was once one of the most powerful people in Hollywood who used his sway to help the Democratic cause. During that time, the American film producer became close friends with people like Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

These powerful Democrats surely don’t want to be reminded of this association.  Especially since these ties bind them so closely to a man whose sex crimes were an open secret in Hollywood circles.

Harvey Weinstein Headed To Prison

While the Silencebreakers didn’t get the outcome they’d hoped for, there is at least some justice in Harvey Weinstein’s guilty verdict.

Harvey Weinstein’s prison sentence is yet to be determined. One thing is for sure, though, Weinstein’s victims want to see him sentenced to the maximum.
