Judy Judy’s first foray into national politics will likely have many of her fans wishing she’d stick to her day job. The longtime TV judge is backing Mike Bloomberg for President. The 77-year-old is putting her face and her reputation on the line to do so. Judge Judy is featured in a campaign ad for the former New York Mayor and will join Bloomberg on the campaign trail to 2020.
While Mike Bloomberg isn’t known by everyone, Judge Judy Sheindlin is a household name. She’s been a staple on our television sets for decades. Nearly ten million people a day watch the no-nonsense New Yorker. Her heavy handed rulings don’t seem to be a good fit for the Democrats, but Bloomberg is banking on her in the primary.
“Judge Him” was launched today. The 30 second commercial featured Sheindlin in what appears to be judicial chambers advocating for Bloomberg. This is an attempt to give him instant credibility with unfamiliar voters.
“I like to say you can judge someone’s character by what they’ve done,” she states in the political commercial. “Mike Bloomberg has done amazing things and will be a truly great president.”
“No one comes close to Mike Bloomberg’s executive achievement, government experience and impactful philanthropy. His steady leadership will unite our country and bring us through these very challenging times,” she continued.
Formalizing Sheindlin’s involvement in his 2020 campaign is a risk both for her and Bloomberg at this point.
Judge Judy has millions in future revenue to lose if she gets blowback from her fans.
Judith Sheindlin endorsed Bloomberg before he even got in the race and reviews were mixed at that time.
Furthermore, Sheindlin’s demand for responsibility from people in the courtroom likely won’t sit well with Democratic primary voters who are in search of handouts and freebies.
BACKSTORY: Judge Judy Risks Career To Make 2020 Presidential Endorsement
Some liberals took to Twitter to express disdain for the television judge. Her approach doesn’t appear to be a good fit for today’s Democratic voters who prefer socialism over working hard.
This is a certainly a gamble for them both.
Bloomberg just hired 500 staffers in attempt to make up for entering the race so late. Now, he’s hoping Judge Judy will be able to give him an added boost, but they both might be not receive a warm welcoming in a Democratic primary.
While she might provide more credibility with voters in a general election than a Democratic primary, are people really going to hand their vote over to Bloomberg? Especially when our economy is thriving and we are winning against terrorists?
In the end, Judge Judy might not persuade anyone. But she might just hurt her reputation.
