Steve Irwin Would Be Proud The Australia Zoo Is Helping Animals Injured In Wildfires

The fires burning in Australia are devastating the country’s wildlife. The Irwins have opened up Australia Zoo and are working non-stop to help the animals. It is estimated that over 8,000 koalas have been killed from the fires. And, the total wildlife loss might be as high as half a million.

At the same time, Australian Defense Force Reserve troops are being sent to affected areas, planes leased by the government are providing water bombing, and the Navy ship HMAS Adelaide will be mobilized to evacuate people along the coast.

Kangaroos Fleeing Fires

The video below shows large amounts of terrified kangaroos fleeing the fires. They aren’t sure where they are going but they know to hop away quickly. These animals are now displaced and in need of a new habitat. The Irwins are helping them.

Steve Irwin’s family has carried on his legacy. The Crocodile Hunter would be proud of what his children Bindi and Robert have accomplished at such young ages. Along with their mother, they are helping animals displaced because of the fires. Koalas and kangaroos are synonymous with Australia so of course the Irwins are helping them.

Terri Irwin tweeted that Australia Zoo is safe from the fires. There isn’t a concern for their safety so they are continuing to treat wildlife.

The Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital is dedicated to Steve’s mother who taught him to be a Wildlife Warrior.” It’s appropriate the hospital established in her memory is helping out with such an important cause.

Bindi provided Instagram followers with an update.

“With so many devastating fires within Australia, my heart breaks for the people and wildlife who have lost so much,” Bindi shared in the post below. “I wanted to let you know that we are SAFE. There are no fires near us @AustraliaZoo or our conservation properties. Our Wildlife Hospital is busier than ever though, having officially treated over 90,000 patients. My parents dedicated our Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital to my beautiful grandmother. We will continue to honour her by being Wildlife Warriors and saving as many lives as we can. ???”

While the Irwins are doing everything they can to save these scared animals, sometimes it just isn’t possible. There are occasions when you have to know when to say goodbye. The pain is too intense and the recovery is not possible. Terri tweeted about a mother koala and two babies that passed away due to injuries from the fire. The Irwins made this trio as comfortable as possible in their final moments.
