Ben Askren

Ben Askren might be done fighting, but the former Bellator and ONE champion remains around the sport.

Askren, who is at UFC 246 working with fighter Maycee Barber, talked with the gang at Submission Radio about a number of interesting subjects.

Included were his thoughts on the main event between Conor McGregor and Donald Cerrone, what is next for McGregor and more.

His McGregor/Cerrone prediction

“I predicted (Conor McGregor) second round TKO, I believe. I mean Cerrone’s gotten finished in his last two fights. It’s going to be interesting to see what kind of Conor emerges. We haven’t seen him in 16 months, and before that it was another, I mean, (in) MMA, a long, long time. So, it’d be interesting to see what we see out of him.”

On how McGregor may look in the early rounds due to his long layoff

“If I’m his coach, I’m telling him he has to start fast. Cerrone starts slow. Take advantage of the difference in starts and fucking come out all guns blazing, I would say.”

Why McGregor vs. Masvidal is definitely next

“It’s the worst kept secret in the business. Him versus Masvidal is next. We all know that. I don’t even know why anyone is trying to play around with any other ideas right now.”

If McGregor could beat Usman for the welterweight belt

“I have to see what he looks like tomorrow, but after seeing what happened with Khabib, I think it’s probably unlikely. But you never know.”
