UFC 244: Jorge Masvidal Takes ‘BMF’ Title Via Doctor Stoppage

Jorge Masvidal won his highly anticipated bout tonight against Nate Diaz, but the bout ended in less than a decisive manner.

Round one

Diaz came out aggressively to begin the fight and started looking for the clinch. Masvidal cracked Diaz with an elbow that cut him and then scored with a kick to the head that put the Stockton fighter on the mat.  Masvidal tried to land shots from above and Diaz called him into his guard. Eventually, however, the fight was stood up.

Moments later, Diaz planted a couple of big punches that prompted a smile out of Masvidal. A bloodied Diaz scored with a left before the round ended.

Round two

Diaz charged out to begin round two again. Masvidal fired in a couple of nice kicks to the body, and Diaz returned fire with lefts.  Masvidal cracked Diaz with a massive right moments later and a body shot put the latter on the mat momentarily. From the clinch, Masvidal punished Diaz with big shots to the body and then he followed up with knees. Masvidal took Diaz down not long after and Diaz started hunting for leglocks before the round ended

Round three

Diaz pressured to begin round three, as per usual, but Masvidal countered well. Masvidal scored with a nice flurry, but Diaz returned fire with some heavy shots. Diaz clinched up late in round three but Masvidal reversed positions and wound up on top as the fight spilled to the floor. Both men fired in punches before the round concluded.

Round four

After round three, the doctor took a look at the cut above the right eye of Diaz and he called the fight. Wow. Masvidal takes the ‘BMF’ title.

After the fight, Masvidal said he’s willing to run it back with Diaz.
