Someone lost their life over a Popeyes Chicken Sandwich after the popularity of the new menu item brought more business than the fast food chain can handle. The sandwich craze now involves bloodshed and has an official body count after a Popeyes chicken sandwich tussle ended in a fatal stabbing. Something like this would never happen at a Chick-fil-A.
The Louisiana-based fast food chain brought back its popular chicken sandwich after a shortage forced them off the menus shortly after its debut in August. It didn’t take long for things to turn deadly at a Maryland Popeyes.
Popeyes smartly timed the sandwich’s relaunch with National Sandwich Day. In addition, the relaunch fell on Sunday, November 3rd which also happens to be the day its biggest competition, Chick-fil-A, is closed.
The Popeyes Chicken Sandwich created such a buzz that long lines have been the norm across the country.
Ultimately, the sandwich hype proved fatal for a 28-year-old man whose life was taken by another Popeyes patron. The two men jockeyed for position in line over one of the sandwiches.
The victim was stabbed at a Popeyes Prince George’s County, Maryland. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
“This individual was in line, a line specifically for the sale of the sandwich, when another customer and he got into an altercation,” Jennifer Donelan, director of media relations for the Prince George’s County Police Department, said. “That ended with the victim being stabbed outside of the business.”
“Somebody cut in front of the other,” she continued. “For you to get that angry over anything, for that type of anger to develop into this type of violence, again, is a very sad and tragic day.

There have been fights across the country over these chicken sandwiches, but this is the first resulting in murder.
This behavior is the complete opposite of what happens at Chick-fil-A. Above all, Chick-fil-A fosters an atmosphere where patrons are brought their food and often asked multiple times if they would like their drinks refilled. The food at the Christian-owned restaurant is delicious and customers are treated like friends.
In fact, a Chick-fil-A employee saved a child’s life earlier this year by climbing through the drive thru window. The employee used his pocket knife to free the child from a seatbelt that was literally choking him.

Police are searching for the suspect in the Maryland stabbing. Donelan asked patrons at the restaurant to reach out to police to provide information.
“We are looking for a male, and that male knows who he is,” Donelan said. “He knows what he did here tonight, and he needs to do the right thing and he needs to step up and turn himself in.”
