Manager Says Nick Diaz Wants to Throw Hands With Jorge Masvidal in UFC Return

It hasn’t been looking like Jorge Masvidal will run it back with Nate Diaz next, but, could he end up facing the latter’s big brother, Nick Diaz? Following a recent interview Nick Diaz did, his manager’s reporting that the star wants to fight “Gamebred”.

Masvidal’s win at UFC 244 and Nate’s calls for a rematch

Masvidal faced Nate Diaz at UFC 244 earlier this month, in one of the most highly anticipated bouts of the year, and recorded a TKO win. After the third round, Diaz was ruled ineligible to continue by the doctor, as a result of a massive cut he had over his eye. Nate immediately called for a rematch with Masvidal, but UFC President Dana White didn’t sound interested in booking that bout next.

As a result, the consensus has been that Masvidal will wait to face the winner of the December 14th bout between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington. But….hold on.

Nick Diaz’s interview with ESPN and his manager’s statement

The 36 year-old Diaz spoke with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani recently, and while doing so, he reported he’s planning a return to the Octagon. Not only that, Diaz had this to say about his return and Masvidal (quotes via ESPN):

“I’ll fight anybody,” Nick Diaz said. “This guy [Masvidal] can do anything he wants to do right now to make the most money possible.

“I’m like, you know, do the damn thing. … I’m doing my part, you do yours. They can do their part and then the show could go on.”

“You want to talk about baptizing my younger brother?” Nick said. “That’s on you. Like, you don’t talk about baptizing my younger brother, so you’re already in a f—ed position if you fight with me. You don’t f—ing talk about baptizing someone’s younger brother. That’s my baby brother. You don’t talk like that to nobody.”

Diaz also relayed that he wants to fight at “Cowboys Stadium”, and following the interview, his manager Kevin Mubenga told ESPN that they are indeed, hoping to fight Masvidal next spring at AT&T Stadium in Dallas.

So, obviously, this would be a massive, massive fight and you would think, the UFC will be all over this, unless contractual demands from both fighters get in the way.

Diaz hasn’t fought now since January, 2015, when faced Anderson Silva at UFC 183. Diaz initially lost the fight to the former middleweight champ by decision. But, Silva was flagged for a banned substance and the fight was overturned to a no-contest.
