Why Brock Lesnar Is On SmackDown

Brock Lesnar returned to the WWE in 2017. Since his return, he’s had several title reigns, but they left much to be desired. The Beast barely defended his titles and his appearances were few and far in between. Now, it would seem Brock Lesnar is ready to become a more active WWE Champion.

Fox Wants a More Active Brock Lesnar in WWE Programming

In the past, the WWE had no problems paying Brock Lesnar astronomical amounts of money for a single appearance. His appearances were often months apart, much to the dislike of the WWE Universe. However, things are rumored to change now, as Fox wants Brock to be more involved in SmackDown Live programming.

With their eye on making SmackDown the superior brand, it is not that strange that they would look at Lesnar to become one of the main attractions. While his status in the eyes of the home-based fans may be down, Lesnar will always be a massive draw.

Permanent Part of Roster

So, the WWE might be forced to make The Beast a more permanent part of their roster. As expected, this may not sit well with the rest of the locker room, who already believes Lesnar was given a better deal than he deserved.

Seth Rollins has been quite vocal about his opinion of the former UFC champion. During a conversation with Ronda Rousey, he even told her how he appreciated she was there every week and not just to collect a paycheck. A thinly veiled stab at Brock Lesnar for sure. He’s also commented on Brock’s attitude during many interviews. This is no surprise when you think about how passionate Rollins is about wrestling.

Rollins is one of the top guys in the company, so you can only imagine how the rest of the locker room is responding. Backstage WWE might not be the most welcoming environment for The Beast right now.

What Does Lesnar Want?

Brock Lesnar

The real question is what does Brock Lesnar want at this point? Fox may have their eye on more appearances for The Beast, but this does not necessarily mean that this will happen.

Up until recently, Lesnar was paid high amounts of money for limited pay-per-view appearances. From a business point-of-view, there is no reason why he would let that sweet deal go. Unless the WWE come up with an even better pay day for regular appearances, I do not really see it happening.

On the flipside, Lesnar has officially retired from UFC. With MMA out of the question completely, he may be willing to spend more time in the wrestling ring. Nevertheless, I think the money he gets paid will be the deciding factor.

Is This The Best Thing For SmackDown?

Brock Lesnar Returns To WWE By Winning The MITB Briefcase

Many people may disagree with me, but I don’t believe Lesnar is the future of SmackDown. I think good wrestling is the future of SmackDown. Guys like Johnny Gargano, Kevin Owens, Adam Cole, The New Day, Cesaro, and other talented wrestlers can make SmackDown better. It will not benefit from The Beast gimmick and a lack of genuine wrestling passion.
