Cain Velasquez's WWE & MMA Future

Cain Velasquez Possibly Done With MMA After Appearing On SmackDown

SmackDown returned to Fridays, this time on Fox. The 20th Anniversary episode saw Brock Lesnar win the WWE Championship from Kofi Kingston in less than 10 seconds. Then, things got interesting as former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez appeared. He closed the show by taking Lesnar down and pummeling him.

These two have a past, as Cain defeated Lesnar back in 2010 for the UFC title. Now, it seems like they will wrestle inside a WWE ring at Crown Jewel or WrestleMania.

MMA Junkie confirmed that Cain, who has several fights left on his UFC contract, is making the switch pro wrestling. He has withdrawn from USADA, who handles the drug testing for UFC.

While the deal for Cain to appear on SmackDown was put together in the last 24 hours with the approval of the UFC, apparently no contract has been signed; but, Cain and WWE are very close to making everything official according to ESPN.

Cain, who was considered one of the best MMA heavyweights, has been struggling with injuries and only competed twice in the past few years. He worked out of the WWE Performance Center in 2018 and has worked a few shows overseas. There was interest from AEW, NJPW and AAA about singing Cain.

Professional Boxer Tyson Fury Offered Open Mic After Intense Confrontation With Braun Strowman

Speaking of SmackDown and combat sports, professional heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury was ringside for the show. At one point during an 8 person tag team match, Braun Strowman and Fury exchanged words. Later, Fury hopped the guardrail and needed to be held back by security.

Now, WWE has invited Fury to Monday’s RAW where they will give the famous boxing star an open microphone. There is no word on where WWE is headed, but we could be seeing Fury vs. Strowman in some type of wrestling match.

Below is WWE’s official statement.

WWE is offering Tyson Fury an open microphone… so, what could possibly go wrong?

After hopping the guardrail this past Friday Night on SmackDown in an attempt to confront Braun Strowman, the always controversial Fury will now be offered an open forum this Monday night on Raw to speak his mind following the explosive incident that saw a small army of security struggle to keep him from getting into the ring to mix it up with The Monster Among Men.

Tune in this Monday night at 8/7 C on USA Network to see if Fury accepts!

For the first show on Fox, there were plenty of big names from combat sports that the story has been picked-up by several media outlets. By brining in Cain and Fury, if only for a short time, it shows that Fox wants to use names outside of WWE to make sure their investment draws major numbers.
