Stipe Miocic Daniel Cormier

Put a pin in talks of former UFC champion Daniel Cormier retiring from mixed martial arts.

UFC president Dana White stated in an interview with Barstool Sports recently that the promotion is looking at potential dates for a third meeting with Cormier and current UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic.

“Stipe is recovering from that (last) fight (with Cormier),” White said. “He’s got some bumps, bangs from that fight. We’re waiting for him to heal then we’re going to do the trilogy.”

Back at UFC 241 in August, Miocic avenged his 2018 loss to Cormier with a surprising knockout after being dominated for the majority of the contest. Cormier ended his record-breaking run atop the division with a knockout of his own while he was the reigning UFC light heavyweight champion at the time.

Daniel Cormier Not Retiring From Mixed Martial Arts Yet

Cormier, though, has floated the idea of retirement for quite some time now. The 40-year-old former U.S. Olympic wrestler had his eight-fight unbeaten streak come to an end when he was finished by Miocic in the fourth round.

Miocic had successfully defended the title against former champion Junior dos Santos, Alistair Overeem and Francis Ngannou before falling to Cormier in the first round. He is 7-1 over his last eight bouts inside the Octagon.
