UFC Copenhagen Primer: Jack Hermansson Stuns Ronaldo Souza

Jack Hermansson portrayed the role of his nickname, “The Joker,” to perfection back in April when he battled Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in the main event at UFC Fight Night from Florida.

Five rounds and 25 minutes later, Hermansson had the biggest win of his 24-fight career, earning a decision over the former Strikeforce champion and top UFC title contender.

Now, Hermansson gets the chance to headline his second consecutive event when he meets Jared Cannonier Saturday at UFC Fight Night 160 from the Royal Arena in Copenhagen, Denmark. The entire card will stream live on ESPN+.

Hermansson rose to the top of the Cage Warriors middleweight ranks, becoming a champion and going 7-0 for the promotion. He defended the title twice and also claimed the Warrior Fight Series belt between his title defenses with Cage Warriors.

In 2016, the UFC took notice and signed Hermansson. He scored a decision victory over Scott Askham before having his nine-fight win streak snapped by Cezar Ferreira. After two wins, he was stopped by Thiago Santos in 2017, but has reeled off consecutive victories over former UFC title contender Thales Leites, Gerald Meerschaert, former World Series of Fighting champion David Branch and Souza since.

In the win over Souza, Hermansson set a five-round middleweight UFC record for signficant strikes landed with 148.

Along with Hermansson vs. Cannonier, Mark Madsen battles Danilo Belluardo, Gunnar Nelson takes on Gilbert Burns and Ion Cutelaba faces off against Khalil Rountree Jr. in other key main card bouts.
