Sheryl Crow Praises Walmart For Submitting To Liberals With New Gun Policy

Singer Sheryl Crow spoke out this week to praise Walmart for putting in a new gun policy. Liberals are thrilled with the policy as it limits ammunition sales and bans open carry weapons in all Walmart stores.

Crow Praises Walmart

Fox News reported that Walmart made this change to their gun policies 23 years after banning one of Crow’s albums. The retail giant refused to carry the album because of a controversial lyric that called them out for selling guns.

“I was so happy to see Walmart take the stance that it did, and how forward-thinking and responsible it was to take that stance and to stop selling guns. And yeah, it makes me sad that that album is 20 years old, but you know, I wouldn’t change it,” Crow said. While at the same time promoting her new album Threads.

“That [album] being banned at Walmart was really hard because at that time, that’s where people bought physical records, and in my hometown, that was the only place you could buy your record,” she continued. “But I wouldn’t change it, you know I think it’s always good to point out what you see, even if it’s not popular.”

Walmart Banned Crow’s Album

Back in 1996, Walmart banned the singer’s album Sheryl Crow because of the lyric, “Watch out sister / Watch out brother / Watch our children as they kill each other / With a gun they bought at the Walmart discount stores”. The explosive lyric appears in Crow’s song “Love Is a Good Thing”. And basically accuses the retailer of selling guns to children.

Walmart Defends New Gun Policy

“Selling a record implying behavior that is against all we stand for is something we just could not profit from,” a Walmart spokesperson said at the time.

This comes days after Walmart announced that it will stop selling handgun ammunition. The sales ban also includes short-barrel rifle ammunition such as the .223 caliber and 5.56 caliber used in military-style weapons. Sales will discontinue once stores run out of their current inventory. And finally – Walmart will no longer sell handguns in Alaska. Which is the only state that the chain previously sold handguns in.

“In a complex situation lacking a simple solution, we are trying to take constructive steps to reduce the risk that events like these will happen again.” Walmart’s CEO Doug McMillon wrote in a memo sent to employees on Tuesday afternoon. “The status quo is unacceptable.”

Other Stores Ban Guns As Well

CVS and Walgreens also joined Walmart in asking that customers refrain from openly carrying firearms in their stores. Even in store locations where state laws allow it. The chains say these highly political moves were made in response to the recent mass shootings in places like El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
