Sean Spicer Cried Happy Tears After ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Debut

Former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer made his debut on “Dancing With The Stars” season 28 Monday night. His energetic performance and frilled, lime-green shirt quickly saw GIFs of the former Trump official circulating on social media.

But, demonstrating again that he is one cool cat under pressure, Spicer is taking the hits in stride. Just like the old days when he faced off with a hostile White House press corp.

Spicer faces the outrage mob

Spicer, 47, faced a lot of negativity and calls for ABC to take him off the show after announcing he’d compete on the 28th season. Host Tom Bergeron even questioned his inclusion in the show.

However, he isn’t letting anything dampen his enjoyment of competing on the show.

“I think Tom has been a great host,” Spicer said in August. “And I firmly believe when the season is over he’s probably going to realize bringing a diverse group of people together, who can interact in a fun, civil and respectful way, is actually a way we can move the country forward in a positive way. And it will make this show an example of how Americans can disagree about politics and tune into good entertainment shows and keep their politics at bay.”

“Dancing With The Stars” season 28 premiere

Sean and his professional dance partner, Lindsay Arnold, danced a salsa on Monday night. In an homage to his surname, the pair danced to a Spice Girls tune, “Spice Up Your Life.”

But, Spicer, who isn’t known for being an incredibly loose person in general, had some difficulty with the dance.

Judge Bruno Tonioli noted Sean’s hips were “set in cement” but was ultimately “strangely entertaining.”

Judge Carrie Ann Inaba agreed with Tonioli, but added, “You were offbeat most of the dance, but you had fun.”

“I did,” Spicer agreed.

“You brought fun to the ballroom. Well done,” Judge Len Goodman said.

Ultimately, Spicer and Arnold finished the night in second-to-last place. And the judges gave them a score of 12 out of 30.

Spicer tears up

Following the premiere, Spicer teared up as he watched a video of his kids watching him dance on the show.

“I was just watching my kids watch it,” Spicer said emotionally.

Sean and his wife, Rebecca, have two children.

Staying positive

Spicer didn’t let questions about the negativity from some about his participation get to him.

Reiterating that he is “having a blast” getting out of his comfort zone. Spicer confessed to TMZ that he was “firmly out of [his] comfort zone” in the ruffled lime green shirt. But ultimately said he hopes his inclusion on the show is a reminder that politics aren’t everything.

“This show is all about going out there and having a great time,” he said. “Showing America that you can be from different backgrounds and for one night, two hours, everybody can come together and root for each other. No matter where you’re from.”

Hopefully, Sean Spicer’s sentiment is shared by more than not.
