The family of a 5-year-old autistic boy say he is being punished and investigated by his school simply for hugging another student. This is what happens when #MeToo gets overplayed and goes to school.

5 Year-Old Reported To State For ‘Hugging’

Nathan is a 5-year-old student with autism at East Ridge Elementary. Leaders of the school say he has overstepped his boundaries, but his family says this is a misunderstanding. His family also claims that the school has reported Nathan to the state for his “offenses.”

Summery Putnam, Nathan’s guardian, told WJLA that she received a call from the boy’s teacher that left her sickened.

“I was sick to my stomach,” Putnam said. “The teacher called me and she said, ‘You need to have a talk with Nathan about boundaries.'”

Putnam went on to explain that Nathan’s autism makes it difficult for him to understand social cues.

“If you don’t understand how autism works, you’ll think he’s acting out or being difficult,” Putnam said. “But, that’s not the situation.”

Putnam added that Nathan’s teacher told her that the 5-year-old autistic boy had been “overstepping boundaries” and was accused of “sexual activities” simply for hugging one classmate and kissing another on the cheek.

Yes, this school appears to be trying to label an autistic 5-year-old as some sort of sexual predator simply for hugging a classmate. This takes #MeToo to a whole new level.

Nathan’s Grandma Fires Back

Debi Amick, Nathan’s grandmother, fired back in a Facebook Post:

“What do you do when a 5 year child is being labeled a sexual predator and accused of sexual harassment by the school system? It was disclosed that it will go in his record for the rest of his life that he is a sex offender. This child is austic, he comprehends and functions very different than your typical 5 year. What do you do? Who do you turn to for help when the school will not even listen to the child’s doctor when he explains the child’s difficulties in his comprehension of simple things such as boundaries. If anyone can offer advice or help please do. Please feel free to comment or pm me. He shouldn’t be treated like this. The kid doesn’t even understand what sex is.”

Tim Hensley, a spokesperson for the Hamilton County Department of Education, defended the actions of school officials.

“School personnel are required to [report] concerns regarding children to the Department of Child Services (DCS),” he said in a statement. “It’s up to DCS to determine if those reports are acted on by DCS and what form those actions may take.”

Critique of Autistic Teen Greta Thunberg Not Acceptable

Meanwhile, it should be noted that while this 5-year-old autistic boy is being reported to the state for hugging, conservatives are being told that they can’t criticize autistic teenager Greta Thunberg or her agenda in any way as she lectures all of us about climate change. One would think that hypersensitive liberals are sensitive to the needs of a 5-year-old struggling with autism. In the end, it seems their sympathies only extend to autistic kids who push their leftwing agendas.

What Nathan’s family says is happening to him is an absolute tragedy. #MeToo has gone too far. Sensitivity and victimization are the new norm. So much so that even a young, special needs student – the epitome of at-risk persons Liberals allege to want to protect – becomes collateral damage. Schools should be better equipped to handle autistic students, and frankly, they need to lighten up as well.
