For several moments at ONE Championship’s “Dawn of Heroes”, it looked like Eddie Alvarez was headed to his second, consecutive loss with the promotion. But, the decorated lightweight hung tough and came back to finish Eduard Folayang.
Alvarez faced Folayang at the August 2nd event in Manila, in a bout that served as a semifinal fight for ONE’s lightweight grand prix. Early on, Folayang sent Alvarez to the deck with a pounding leg kick, and then swarmed in with follow up punches. The former Bellator and UFC champ battled through the storm, however, and you can watch how he scored the win below.
Alvarez was coming off a stoppage loss to Timofey Nastyukhin this past March, which was the 35-year-old’s ONE debut. With Friday’s win, Alvarez moved his overall record to 30-7, with 1 no contest.
The rugged vet will take on Saygid Guseyn Arslanaliev in the GP finals, October 13th.
