President Donald Trump let loose on the Oscars on Tuesday, saying that the ratings for the show have plummeted because leftwing celebrities have started using the ceremony to lecture Americans about liberal politics.

Trump Slams the Oscars

“The Academy Awards is on hard times now,” Trump said during a speech in Pennsylvania. “You know why? Because they started taking us on. Everyone got tired of it.”

“That used to be second after the Super Bowl, and now all of a sudden it’s just another show because people got tired of people getting up and making fools of themselves,” Trump added, “and disrespecting the people in this room and the people that won the election in 2016.”

The Hill reported that though ratings for the Oscars, which aired on ABC six months ago, were up from the previous year, it was still the second-lowest rated show in the history of the awards ceremony. The show has gotten increasingly political in recent years, with liberal celebrities shamelessly using it to bash Trump and lecture Americans about their leftwing politics.

2019 Oscars Get Political

During this year’s show, filmmaker Spike Lee got political by urging liberal voters to come together and vote Trump out of office.

“The 2020 presidential election is around the corner,” Lee said, according to Slate. “Let’s all mobilize, let’s all be on the right side of history. Make the moral choice between love versus hate. Let’s do the right thing! You know I had to get that in there.”

Rudy Giuliani Rips Oscars

After the show, Rudy Giuliani took to Twitter to reveal exactly why so many Americans have stopped watching the Oscars.

“Bob Hope made us laugh by laughing at Hollywood and laughing at himself. The modern Oscar show is marred every year by very little comedy and a lot of pontification and bloviating all in service of limousine liberalism.”

As they so often do, Trump and Giuliani have hit the nail on the head with their critique of the Oscars. Hollywood stars have become so full of themselves that they assume that Americans actually care what they think about politics, but they are dead wrong about this. When we turn on the Oscars, the last thing we want is a political lecture. Instead, we want to escape our own lives to be a part of the glitz and glamor of the ceremony. There was a time when the Oscars provided this form of escapism, but thanks to how political the celebrity attendees have made the show, it’s clear that these days are long gone. If Hollywood liberals keep politicizing the Oscars, they can expect ratings to continue to plummet in the coming years.
