Buddy Murphy’s Push, Reason For No Evolution PPV This Year

Buddy Murphy’s Accidental Push

While Roman Reigns seeks the person(s) who attacked him, former Cruiserweight Champion Buddy Murphy has found himself in the storyline. After Reigns beat a confession of Murphy, the two met earlier in the week on SmackDown and their match has been highly praised.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez noted how Murphy was not originally supposed to be in the angle. When WWE filmed the segment a few weeks ago, fans noticed Murphy was there. It was accidental, but WWE used his presence to further the storyline as fans were already talking about it on social media.

This upcoming week, Daniel Bryan & Rowan have promised to reveal the person behind the attacks. Unless something changes, the idea is still for Bryan and Reigns to feud. As for Murphy, he was in the right place at the right time. He was barely used since leaving the 205 Live brand and is now working with WWE’s biggest babyface. Seeing how Murphy and Reigns delivered in the ring, it only seems fitting that the Australian born superstar’s push continues.

Reason For No Second Evolution Event

The first all female WWE pay per view called Evolution was one of the better shows produced in 2018 and was a sell out, but it appears the show will not be returning this year. The historic event featured names from RAW, SmackDown, NXT, the Mae Young Classic Young Finals and Charlotte Flair vs. Becky Lynch in a Last Woman Standing Match that stole the show.

During the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed how there were several reasons the event did not return. For one, WWE feared they would not draw as well without Ronda Rousey and it came down to an economic business decision.

“If you want to do it then they want to do it, that’s all,” said Meltzer. “The show was great last year, but just because it was great doesn’t mean you have to do it this year. Obviously, it wasn’t so great business-wise because they didn’t put it on the schedule this year, but the fact that you want to be a champion in women’s sports.”

With the 2019  calendar for major events already figured out, the show did not make the cut. There is always next year and seeing how the first Evolution was a success when it came to in-ring action, do not be surprised if Evolution 2.0 returns.
