John Lineker

John Lineker may have been one of the UFC’s top flyweights and then bantamweights for several years now, but, “Hands of Stone” has reportedly been let go by the promotion.

MMA Junkie is reporting that a source close to the situation has informed the outlet Lineker has been cut by the UFC. The Brazilian fighter’s team reportedly declined to comment at this time.

No other details regarding the situation are being reported as this is being written. The news surfaces, however, not long after Lineker bowed out of UFC Greenville on short notice. At the time, his manager reported that Lineker had incurred a facial cut.  Lineker had been tapped to fight Rob Font at the event, after calling on the UFC to give him a fight or release him.

So, one could be tempted to conclude that all of the above, played a role in what’s transpired. While Lineker is coming off a split decision loss to Cory Sandhagen in April, prior to that he won back-to-back bouts over Marlon Vera and Brian Kelleher. Further, “Hands of Stone” was unquestionably, one of the more entertaining fighters to watch at 135.

Now it will be interesting to see where Lineker winds up. The 29-year-old Lineker (31-9) arrived in the UFC back in 2012, fought 16 times in the Octagon and went 12-4. That’s not too shabby.
