Backstage Opinion On Paul Heyman’s New Role, Ric Flair’s Health

– WWE made some big changes in recent weeks by naming Executive Directors to RAW and SmackDown. The RAW side has Paul Heyman and SmackDown end sees Eric Bischoff; with both still reporting to Vince McMahon at the end of the day. The big moves left people talking and some wondered if Bischoff was the right person considering his time in WCW and Impact Wrestling. Apparently, there are also some questions about Heyman.

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it stated that Heyman’s new role has received a mixed reaction. He was called a “creative genius and a master manipulator” that the company needs due to low ratings, but others brought up the topic of his age.

Seeing now Heyman is 20 years younger than Vince McMahon and he did run a successful promotion (minus the money issues) with ECW, he seems like the right person. Before getting the new gig, Heyman would work intensely with Brock Lesnar, Ronda Rousey and Alexa Bliss. The most recent edition of RAW did okay numbers and fans seemed to generally like what Heyman implemented.

– Ric Flair does not seem afraid to live life to the fullest. The two time WWE Hall of Famer has undergone some serious medical issues in recent years, but he is still going strong. Flair spoke to Wrestling Inc and revealed that his recent hospital stay was due to an old blood clot that moved from his leg to the lungs.

“They found a blood clot in my leg, which I’ve had for years,” said Flair (Thanks to Wrestling Inc for the transcript). “But a little piece had gone into my lung and they got rid of that. So I spent three days there cleaning it and I had fluid on my heart from all of the anesthesia from the three other surgeries.”

The 70 year old is done competing inside the ring, but WWE will always find other projects for him. Plus, he gets to watch his daughter Charlotte continue to make WWE history in such a short period of time.
