A 97-year-old World War II veteran and the French woman he fell in love with 75 years ago just had a reunion that is melting the hearts of people all over the world.

Huff Post reported that KT Robbins was only 24 years old back in 1944 when he was an American soldier stationed in France during the war. During his time there, he met and fell in love with 18-year-old Jeannine Pierson but they lost contact when he had to leave to fight on the Eastern Front before returning to the United States. Though they were separated at a young age, Robbins and Pierson never forgot the love they had for one another.

A bitter goodbye

“When he left in the truck, I cried, of course, I was very sad,” Pierson said. “I wish after the war he hadn’t returned to America.”

For over seven decades, Robbins kept a photo of Pierson, never expecting to see her again. Much to his surprise, he did, in fact, get to reunite with her when the France 2 TV network was recently filming a segment about American veterans coming back to the nation for events commemorating the 75th anniversary of D-Day. While Robbins was in France for the segment, he mentioned Pierson and expressed hopes to meet her family to tell them how much she meant to him, assuming that she was no longer alive. One reporter then did some digging and managed to find Pierson, giving Robbins the surprise of his life by revealing that she was alive and eager to meet him!

In the viral video below, you’ll see Robbins and Pierson reunite before he had to leave for a D-Day event. Though Robbins had to say goodbye to Pierson quickly, he promised her that it was only temporary and that they would see each other again.

“Jeannine, I love you girl,” he said.

Hearts melt across the globe

The video of their reunion has quickly gone viral, touching the hearts of social media users all over the world.

“As a hopeless romantic, this warms my heart. True love never dies,” one social media user commented, with another adding, “Dear Lord..I nearly burst into tears when he took out her picture from his jacket and saw her reaction. my stomach is still in knots.”

“Love is beyond borders and languages,” a third user commented.

It’s always nice to see videos like this that remind us true love never dies!
