The birth of a baby has long been the reason for many families burying the hatchet over past grudges. The arrival of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s son, Archie, appears to be doing the same for the brothers who were once so close.

According to Royal expert Katie Nicholl, the recent coolness between Princes William and Harry has started to fall away since Harry, 34, and Meghan, 37, became parents.

“I was told by a very senior royal source that actually they weren’t talking to each other at one point,” Nicholl said in an interview. “I certainly think now that Archie is here, it has probably really helped to improve the relationship. William is over-the-moon that his brother is a dad.”

William thought Harry and Meghan were moving too fast.

The trials of incorporating a fourth into William, Kate, and Harry’s close-knit trio began as Harry’s whirlwind romance took off with then-actress Meghan Markle at a speed William was reportedly wary about.

“William was quite concerned that the relationship had moved so quickly,” Nicholl previously said. “And being close to Harry, you know, probably the only person close enough to say to Harry, ‘This seems to be moving quickly. Are you sure?’ And I think what was meant as well-intended brotherly advice just riled Harry.”

It’s no surprise that William and Kate want to mend their relationship with the younger Windsors so that their children can grow up together.

“William and Harry will want their children to know their cousins and do things together, so they will work harder at their relationship,” a close source to the British royals said. “The brothers will have a different kind of relationship and move on.”

The only person both brothers have in the world who understands the loss of Princess Diana and all the media attention that garnered is each other. Certainly, working on getting along would be their mother’s greatest wish as they enter a new stage of raising the next generation of royals.
