Backstage News On Goldberg’s WWE Return, Lio Rush’s Future

– We knew WWE was returning to Saudi Arabia and they would bring some big names with them like Brock Lesnar and Undertaker. Then there was a bit of a twist with Goldberg also being announced for the show.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted how there were at least two reasons for bringing in Goldberg. First, they were looking for a big name from the past. Second, and probably more important, is WWE believed that Goldberg would eventually sign with All Elite Wrestling (AEW).

As of this writing, there is no word if Goldberg will even compete on the card. Names like Rusev, Lesnar and Randy Orton have been discussed as potential opponents. As seen below, Rusev and Orton have already commented on Goldberg’s return.

It will be interring to see if WWE has signed Goldberg to a long term contract or if the Saudi Arabia show is a one time deal. Last time Goldberg competed was at WrestleMania 33, where Lesnar cleanly pinned him to win the Universal Championship. The following year, Goldberg headlined the WWE Hall of Fame class.

No matches have been confirmed for WWE’s return to Saudi  Arabia. The event takes place June 7, so several matches will probably be booked after Money in the Bank.

– According to PWInsider, WWE tried to re-sign Lio Rush to new deal but he declined the offer. The new deal was said to be a five-year contract in the $300,000 range. The current contract ends in 2020.

There is no denying that Rush has rubbed several people the wrong way. He is no longer paired with Bobby Lashley and some were speculating that his future with WWE looked bleak.

A major problem with Rush is his attitude and how he handles himself backstage. He likes to bring his family to rehearsals, which is frowned upon. Several people have tried to talk to him, but it did not work and at one point Rush was not allowed in the locker room.
