Miley Cyrus has found herself in hot water this week after she posted a photo of herself posing in a Joshua Tree, which social media users have pointed out potentially could have damaged it.

Fox News reported that Cyrus posted two photos of herself in the tree on Instagram with the captions, “Looking down at all the petty drama like….” And “Monkey Bizzzzznassssss.”

While it is not immediately clear where Cyrus took the photos, the trees are protected in the Joshua Tree National Park, Mojave National Preserve and in many other cities. George Land, a spokesperson for Joshua Tree National Park, released a statement saying that they “would appreciate it that people would respect the fact that desert vegetation is a little bit fragile at times.”

“We don’t want to incite people to carry out some kind of threat against Miley Cyrus, or anybody else that would do that,” he explained. “We would just remind her that she has a big following, people watch what she does, and it would be greatly appreciated by the Park Service and the people around the area if she would maybe curb that type of activity, especially posting it on her social media page.”

Keep in mind that this is the same young woman who has claimed that those who eat meat do not love animals.

Social media users have since been slamming Cyrus, calling on her to remove the photos from her Instagram.

“Dude this photo and the fact that you are flaunting these actions are not only disrespectful to the earth and the people who care to protect it but it’s also either so incredibly ignorant or selfish of you to do,” one social media user commented, with another adding, “Please remove these photos of you on the Joshua Trees!!! This behavior is not okay. It is OUR JOB to protect these trees!!!!”

Geary Hund, the executive director of the Mojave Desert Land Trust, agreed that Cyrus could have damaged the tree and that she should take down the photos.

“We ask that Miley Cyrus consider her status as a public figure and remove this photo from her social media accounts in order to educate others and to prevent potential damage to Joshua trees,” Hund said.

Cyrus has still not removed the photos as of this writing.

This is yet another example of the carelessness Cyrus has displayed on numerous occasions. It’s time for this young woman to start taking some responsibility for her actions and to think about the way the things she does affects others.
