Many feared that “Empire” star Jussie Smollett was getting off scot-free when the city of Chicago dropped all charges against him after he staged a hate crime where he would look like a victim. Now, however, a legal expert has weighed in to say that the civil lawsuit filed against Smollett by Chicago might actually be his “worst nightmare.”
Renowned Chicago attorney Karen Conti told Fox13 reporter Rafer Wagel that the lawsuit filed against Smollett after he refused to pay back the $130,000 in investigation costs to the city is the actor’s “worst nightmare.”
“The evidence would likely be unsealed and the case could drag out 4 years,” Conti said. “We’re gonna get the facts that we haven’t gotten thus far.”
“The city wants its pound of flesh,” she said.
Smollett was facing 48 years in prison for faking the hate crime after he claimed that he was attacked by two men who hurled racial and homophobic slurs at him while also shouting “this is MAGA country.” Police, however, concluded that Smollett hired his two attackers himself in the hopes that being the victim of a hate crime would earn him a pay raise on “Empire.”
Chicago police officers were furious when prosecutors inexplicably dropped all charges against Smollett, and millions of other Americans were enraged as well.
Frankly, I hope this lawsuit is indeed Smollett’s “worst nightmare,” because he deserves to be punished for this despicable lie. Our country is more divided than ever right now, and conservatives everywhere are constantly and unjustly vilified as being racist, homophobic, and virtually anything else negative. Smollett chose to feed off of this hatred for conservatives in a sickening way that put all of us in danger. If he can’t be in prison, Smollett should at least be put through Hell and back in the courtroom.
