Duane “Dog” Chapman and his wife Beth have been through a lot together over the last 30 years, and continue to do so as Beth struggles with a life-threatening illness.

As Beth, who was diagnosed with stage II throat cancer in 2017, recovers from another surgery to remove an obstruction in her throat, the reality that he could be tragically losing another loved is surely on the bounty hunter’s mind. After all, he lost his daughter not that long ago.

No stranger to family tragedy

It was the day before Dog married Beth in 2006, after 16 years together, that his daughter was killed in a vehicle accident in Alaska. Barbara Katy “B.K.” Chapman was reportedly struggling to get her life back on track for herself and her daughter when she and a friend decided to use a stolen debit card and then stole an SUV and ran it off the road. Drugs and alcohol were thought to have played a part in the accident.

Despite getting the news on the Saturday morning before the wedding, Dog and Beth decided to do what they always do, keep on living and dealing with pain and heartache as it comes.

The couple kept the news quiet until the reception, where a very emotional Dog announced the sad news of Barbara’s passing.

Together through thick and thin.

“When we made a pledge many years ago, I said I’d love her in sickness and in health until death do us part. And that truth has really, really come alive in my mind,” Dog said recently. “And I have to stand on that; I gave her an oath that I would love her forever. And thank God it’s not till death do us part at this point.”

One can only hope that Beth’s time with Dog on this earth is far from over. In the meantime, the couple is continuing their work of catching wanted individuals on a new series for WGN America, called “Dog’s Most Wanted.”
