UFC 235: Jon Jones Outscores a Game Anthony Smith

Anthony Smith showed a lot of heart and toughness tonight at UFC 235, but as most people expected, Jon Jones was too much for the light-heavyweight challenger.

Smith changed up his stance a lot in the first round, and looked to plant big shots, while Jones stayed busy with kicks to the body and leg. Later in the frame, Smith fired off a big head kick that Jones was largely able to block.

Jones’ steady stream of kicks continued in round two, and while Smith countered nicely a couple of times, the champ outscored the challenger.

In round three, Jones looked for a takedown early on, and although Smith defended he was punished along the cage with strikes for some time. Late in the frame, Jones took Smith down, and he spent the remainder of the round there until seconds before the horn went.

Jones cut Smith open moments into round four, and swept the former middleweight to the floor. For the remainder of the round he battered Smith with punches and elbows. Then, moments before the round was about to end, Jones blasted Smith with a knee to the head while he was technically down. Jones was deducted two points for the foul.

Smith came out more aggressively in round five, but Jones proceeded to push him to the cage and work the clinch. From there, “Bones” controlled the action, before receiving the UD win.

Here are the results from UFC 235.
