Original WrestleMania Plans For Dean Ambrose

– There are lots of rumors circulating if Dean Ambrose is leaving WWE in a matter of weeks and all signs point to yes. If Ambrose opted to stay with WWE, they apparently had major plans.

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it states that the running idea was for him to take on Roman Reigns. When Reigns announced that his leukemia had returned, he dropped the Universal Championship and the match was scrapped.

We learned Reigns is now in emission and back inside the ring, but WWE had no idea at the time how long “The Big Dog” would be out. When Reigns did return to action, he reformed The Shield for one final run. At Fastlane, The Shield got the better of Drew McIntyre, Bobby Lashley and Baron Corbin.

Ambrose is not booked for WrestleMania 35, even though he remains on WWE TV. There is no heat on Ambrose leaving and his future is uncertain. Certainly, All Elite Wrestling will try to sign Ambrose.

– Speaking of WrestleMania 35, Kevin Owens has no opponent and was not even listed as part of the Andre The Battle Royal. During PWInsider Elite, Mike Johnson noted how the original plan was for Owens to return on the RAW or SmackDown following WrestleMania.

Instead, Owens returned a few weeks ago and was given Kofi Kingston’s title shot against WWE Champion Daniel Bryan at Fasltane. The match turned in a triple threat with Ali being a late addition, but Bryan still left as champion. Before Owens’ unexpected return, there was some speculating that he might be paired again with Sami Zayn; who is getting close to being cleared for an in-ring return.

It does feel strange that Owens was in the WWE Championship picture only weeks ago and now he has no match on the grandest stage of them all. Perhaps, WWE should have kept Owens off TV until WrestleMania 35.
