Charlotte Flair Slams ESPN After SportsCenter Appearance

Charlotte Flair slammed ESPN shortly after an appearance on SportsCenter on Wednesday. She appeared alongside fellow wrestlers Ronda Rousey and Becky Lynch, whose accomplishments were listed by the media outlet. However, Charlotte Flair’s introduction left much to be desired.

Charlotte Flair as the Daughter of Ric Flair

When she appeared on SportsCenter, ESPN deemed it appropriate to caption her as  the “daughter of WWE Hall Of Famer Ric Flair.” While there is nothing wrong with that at first glance, Ronda Rousey and Becky Lynch got introductions based on their achievements. Those intros included “the first female inducted into the UFC Hall Of Famen” “Raw Women’s Champion,” And “2019 Royal Rumble Winner.” Naturally, Charlotte is upset none of her personal achievements were listed.

To respond to the poor introduction she received on ESPN, Charlotte Flair reacted with a pointed tweet on Twitter.

I can understand Charlotte’s frustration with the entire situation. Being the daughter of Ric Flair can be a tricky thing to escape, especially if you are building a career in the same industry. Still, Charlotte has done nothing but prove herself. She has been responsible for some of the most iconic women’s matches, not ignoring that she is a multiple time champion who has participated in the women’s first Hell in a Cell match. How can such things be ignored by one of the biggest media channels in the United States?

Women’s Wrestling Did Not Come Out Brilliantly

Charlotte Flair is not the only person who is upset with ESPN. The company treated women’s wrestling with absolute disrespect. While they mentioned the fact that the women would headline WrestleMania in the first women’s main event. That accolade was quite brief though, as the interviewer went straight to Ronda Rousey to ask her about Conor McGregor’s retirement. Talk about insulting to the women in wrestling.

The questions asked during the interview were well below average as well. Not only was the interviewer more interested in Conor McGregor, the only other thing asked related to how each of the stars feel about headlining WrestleMania. While this is a historic victory for women, ESPN managed to reduce it to minor news. The women who fought decades to get women’s wrestling to where it is today are probably not too amused.

Sadly, the WWE has not handled the main event as well as it should. Nevertheless, it should be quite an interesting match and I have sky high expectations, especially since it involves wrestlers such as Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch. Ronda Rousey is also brilliant to watch, so I cannot wait for them to stick it to ESPN.
