WWE Pitched Invasion Angle + Asuka WrestleMania Plans?

-WWE fans will, at least for the near future, always wonder what could have been, relative to the talents they missed out on. Specifically, we can wonder how WWE would be different now had The Young Bucks, Cody Rhodes and others signed with the company rather than kicking off All Elite Wrestling.

We may not have to wonder too vaguely anymore, however.

Dave Meltzer from Wrestling Observer is reporting that WWE pitched an invasion angle to and for The Young Bucks as part of their contract negotiations. Presumably, such an angle may have also leveraged Cody Rhodes, Kenny Omega and “Hangman” Adam Page, provided all involved would have signed on the dotted line.

The angle was believed to have been planned to take place during the Road to WrestleMania, likely culminating in a major match at the event, to be held in New Jersey this April. Sadly, rather than join WWE, all those potentially involved opted to give it a go with All Elite Wrestling. With their signings, the invasion angle appears to have been eliminated.

-Speaking of WrestleMania…much has been said about a couple of the headlining matches-the Universal Championship bout pitting Brock Lesnar against Seth Rollins, along with the RAW Women’s Championship bout and the plethora of possibilities. However, little has been mentioned of what is in store for the SmackDown Women’s Champion, Asuka.

It seems that one match under consideration for Asuka involves recent NXT call up Lacey Evans. Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer indicated that the match between Asuka and Evans was not a sure thing, but had at least been under consideration.

Such a match would line up with other recent reports suggesting that the Lady of WWE was expected to receive a significant push.

Still, considering her NXT record and accomplishments, along with her thus far quiet main roster debut, it would be interesting to see how WWE gets Evans into a title shot at WrestleMania, if the match is still a possibility.
