Show opens up and Shane and Stephanie McMahon are in the ring to oversee the WWE Championship contract signing between champ Daniel Bryan and challenger Kofi Kingston.
They give Kofi a glowing introduction. Kofi comes out and says a few words about his 11-year journey to finally get this grand opportunity. The crowd chants, “You deserve it!” He tells the audience it wouldn’t have been possible without their tweets, emails, etc. Without the public support, this chance may never have materialized. Kofi then turns to Bryan and tells him he’ll be taking his title. Kofi has a seat across from a stern-looking Bryan and the crowd chants, “Kofi!” Bryan is the first to sign. As Kofi is about to sign, suddenly Vince McMahon’s music hits.
Vince says he just wants to tell Kofi how much he appreciates him before the contract is officially signed. However, Vince says he has an obligation to offer fans the biggest attractions possible. Therefore, Vince says he must replace Kofi in the match. Someone who Vince says is more deserving. That man is Kevin Owens. Owens enters, making his return and Kofi and his New Day brothers are beside themselves. The crowd is beside themselves. Owens gets in the ring and sits across from Bryan, who has a quizzical look on his face.
Owens signs the contract. Xavier Woods and Big E are still ranting and raving as Kofi looks simply dejected. Woods says it’s disgusting and he can’t believe this happens every single time. The crowd still chants Kofi’s name. Owens and Bryan stare at each other intently as it cuts to commercial. ‘

Owens says he’s just glad Vince recognizes how much he deserves the title shot, but he also wants to address the smug look Bryan and Erick Rowan had on their faces. Owens asks that he be allowed to partner with Kofi against Bryan and Rowan. Steph says she’ll take it under advisement.
