If you watched UFC 231 last weekend, then you witnessed first hand just how brutal and damaging elbows can be, during Gunnar Nelson’s submission win over Alex Oliveira.
Nelson moved into the mount position in round two of the welterweight fight, and opened up a horrific gash on Oliveira, via elbows from the top. Moments later, Nelson submitted the bloodied Oliveira with a rear-naked-choke.
Since then, Oliveira posted a video on Facebook, which provides evidence (see below) of how massive the gash was (it reportedly took 29 stitches to close it). Thankfully it looks like the rugged Brazilian is going to be okay.
Prior to facing Nelson, Oliveira was coming off back-to-back finishes of Carlo Pedersoli Jr. and Carlos Condit. “Cowboy” is now 3-2 in his last 5 bouts.
