There have been some bad storylines over the year. While Raw had the most in terms of poor storylines, SmackDown did have a few too. So, without further ado, here are the worst storylines of 2018!

Brock Lesnar’s Title Reign

Brock Lesnar’s title reign was the worst storyline of the year in my opinion. The WWE Universal Champion hardly appeared on television during his reign, but also faced the same people over and over again.

Most fans found Lesnar’s title reign tedious and repetitive. It also showed to reduce the value of the WWE Universal Championship, making Raw no longer the show to watch.

The Bayley and Sasha Banks Rivalry

My second pick does not need a lot of clarification, as this storyline was deemed as one of the worst of the year.

It started as a promising rivalry, with many fans looking forward to a heel turn for one of the women and some epic matches between Bayley and Sasha Banks. However, the WWE turned sour at the idea, leading to a “counseling” segment for the pair that made for some boring television.

Bobby Lashley’s Sisters

Bobby Lashley

Dubbed as one of the worst segments in recent years, the storyline between Bobby Lashley and Sami Zayn was weird to say the least. While it was certainly memorable, the storyline was so cringe-worthy and stretched out, it made many people tune out of Raw.

Big Cass and Daniel Bryan’s Height

Big Cass

The rivalry between Big Cass and Daniel Bryan could have been great, but there were some segments during the storyline that made many fans cringe. One of them was the segment where a little person took on the role of Daniel Bryan, promptly being beaten up by Big Cass. It was Daniel Bryan’s first real feud since returning to the ring, but it turned out to be quite lackluster.

Dolph Ziggler Drops Championship After Winning It

Dolph Ziggler

One of the most pointless storylines in WWE history was when Dolph Ziggler won the United States Championship belt after Clash of Champions. While this happened in 2017, the actual story continued well into 2018, since Dolph returned to the Royal Rumble pretending nothing had happened.

Nia’s Heel and Face Turns

Nia Jax

Nia Jax had more heel and face turns over the past year than most WWE superstars do in their entire career. While there is no problem with such turns, it does become a problem when heel and face turns have no story value and are not explained. That’s exactly the case for Nia and it has hurt her standing in the WWE in my opinion.

John Cena Attends WrestleMania as a Fan

John Cena

While I did find the entire thing somewhat amusing, John Cena attending the event “as a normal fan” was not really plausible. When you realise Cena is a multi-millionaire, it is unlikely he would be sitting where he was. It was also unlikely that Taker would not show up, so the entire storyline felt quite unnecessary.

Survivor Series

Survivor Series
While Survivor Series was already a pay-per-view of no consequence, this year was worse somehow. The feud between Becky and Ronda Rousey was the only thing provided a bright spark. However, that was soon ruined after a misplaced punch from Nia Jax left Becky on the bench for a considerable time.

To make things worse, Survivor Series ended up being a clear sweep for Raw, something many fans saw as a personal insult, especially when SmackDown Live is the go-to show for many.
