Meghan Markle has been in the royal family for seven months now, and while she is beloved among the public, things may not be going as well for her among her own staffers. This is indicated by the fact that there has been quite a lot of turnover in Meghan’s staff since she became an official royal.

Daily Mail reported that Meghan and Prince Harry’s personal secretary Samantha Cohen, who is so renowned that she has the nickname “Samantha the Panther,” announced earlier this month that after their first child is born in the spring, she will be leaving. Cohen has had a lengthy career with the royal family that spans 17 years, and she was once one of the most trusted aides to Queen Elizabeth herself. Harry and Meghan reportedly asked Samantha to reconsider her decision and stay on, but she refused. Her departure from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s staff so soon after joining has fueled rumors that Meghan might be difficult to work for.

“Sam will be a huge loss,” a source close to Meghan said. “Going forward, Meghan might need someone cut from a slightly different cloth to traditional courtiers, who is not a career civil servant or royal insider.”

This comes soon after Meghan’s personal assistant Melissa Touabti abruptly quit six months after she began working for the duchess. A source said that Meghan was so demanding with Melissa that she “left her in tears.”

“Her job was highly pressurised and in the end, it became too much,” the source said. “She put up with quite a lot. Meghan put a lot of demands on her and it ended up with her in tears.”

However, another source close to the royals spoke out to defend Meghan.

“She is simply not afraid to express her opinion,” the source explained. “While many find her a little pushy, there are many in the royal household who have quickly taken to her.”

Before passing too much judgment on Meghan, it’s important to remember just how much her life has changed in the past year. Adjusting to life as a royal would be stressful for anyone, and on top of all her responsibilities, Meghan is trying to build a staff that is the perfect fit for her. It’s far too soon to label her as “difficult,” and we should instead give her the time she needs to find the right people to surround herself with on her staff.
