Brock Lesnar’s WWE Manager Comments on Likelihood of Daniel Cormier Bout

Recently there’s been speculation that Brock Lesnar may not, in fact, return to the UFC before Daniel Cormier plans to hang up the gloves. But, according to his pro-wrestling manager, Paul Heyman, the fight could go down.

Ever since Cormier won the heavyweight title this past July, and Lesnar ‘confronted’ him at UFC 226, the expectation has been the two will collide in early 2019. But, more recently it was reported that Lesnar has signed a new deal with WWE, and that’s raised questions about the Cormier bout. The main reason being that Cormier has repeatedly said he plans to retire in March, when he turns 40, and Lesnar is expected to wrestle at Wrestlemania in April. So, would the WWE really want to run the risk of Lesnar getting taken out? Or injured? Before the event?

Well, recently TMZ caught up with the aforementioned Heyman, and he had this to say about the likelihood of Cormier – Lesnar (quote via MMA Fighting):

“As long as Daniel Cormier has the balls to step into the Octagon and put his title up against Brock Lesnar, and UFC comes up with the money for Brock Lesnar, I don’t see anything that would keep Brock Lesnar from taking the fight,” Heyman said.

So we’ll see what happens here. Heyman may not be aware of Cormier’s intention to retire in March, which as noted above, makes things tricky if Lesnar is appearing at Wrestlemania. So, you would think that as long as “DC” sticks to his retirement plan, then a bout with Lesnar would need to happen pretty early next year. If that’s the case, we’ll likely hear something on this soon.

Then again, who knows? Maybe the WWE decides to roll the dice and signs off on Lesnar fighting Cormier in March. If, if, Lesnar were to win the UFC’s heavyweight belt, that would provide the company with a teee-un of promotional material for Wrestlemania.

More recently, Cormier took on Derrick Lewis at UFC 230 earlier this month, and submitted the heavy-handed fighter in round two.
