roseannes character conners

After the cancellation of her eponymous sitcom “Roseanne,” Roseanne Barr graciously signed away all of her rights to the show so that ABC would create a spinoff, allowing her cast and crew to keep their jobs. New spinoff, “The Conners,” is set to premiere this fall and star John Goodman has just inadvertently revealed how the show plans to approach the character of Roseanne.

Deadline reported that Goodman appears to have revealed that Roseanne Conner will be killed off. When asked how his character Dan will be on the new show, Goodman said, “It’s an unknown. I guess he’ll be mopey and sad because his wife’s dead.”

ABC has stayed quiet about what they plan to do with Barr’s former character. They fired Barr over a tweet she posted about Barack Obama’s former advisor, Valerie Jarrett. ABC executives called the tweet “abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values,” and they immediately canceled the show.

ABC released a brief statement about “The Conners”, describing them as “the Conner family who, after a sudden turn of events, are forced to face the daily struggles of life in Lanford in a way they never have before.”

This iconic family — Dan, Jackie, Darlene, Becky and D.J. — grapples with parenthood, dating, an unexpected pregnancy, financial pressures, aging and in-laws in working-class America,” the synopsis continued. “Through it all, the fights, the coupon cutting, the hand-me-downs, the breakdowns – with love, humor and perseverance, the family prevails.”

The spinoff will feature Goodman along with the rest of the principal cast, which includes Laurie Metcalf (“Jackie”), Sara Gilbert (“Darlene”), Lecy Goranson (“Becky”) and Michael Fishman (“D.J.”).

We’re saddened that ABC has erased Barr from her own show and decided to move forward with this spinoff. It’s hard to imagine that this show will be a success without the presence of the legendary Roseanne Barr!
