john goodman roseanne defense

Months after ABC canceled the successful sitcom “Roseanne” over an offensive tweet posted by Roseanne Barr, the comedian’s former co-star John Goodman is finally speaking out to defend her.

Fox News reported that Goodman just addressed the scandal for the first time by saying that he was “surprised” by ABC’s swift cancellation of the show.

“I was surprised. I’ll put it this way, I was surprised at the response… and that’s probably all I should say about it,” said Goodman, who has previously refused to comment on the situation.

Goodman went on to say that he was hit hard by the cancellation, admitting that he fell into a depression afterwards.

“I was brokenhearted, but I thought, ‘OK, it’s just show business, I’m going to let it go,'” he said. “But I went through a period, about a month, where I was very depressed. I’m a depressive anyway, so any excuse that I can get to lower myself, I will. But that had a great deal to do with it, more than I wanted to admit.”

The actor then defended Barr from claims of racism that she has faced since the show’s cancellation

“I know, I know, for a fact that she’s not a racist,” Goodman said. “She had to sign a paper saying that she relinquished all her rights to the show so that we could go on. I sent her an email and thanked her for that. I did not hear anything back, but she was going through hell at the time. And she’s still going through hell.”

Barr gave up all her rights to the show so that its spinoff, “The Conners,” could move forward. This spin-off is expected to premiere in the fall.

It’s about time that someone from the cast of “Roseanne” spoke up to defend Barr from the onslaught of hate that she has received from liberals. It’s time for the rest of Hollywood to take a page out of Goodman’s playbook and forgive Barr so that she can move on with her life!
