nun throws first pitch

A nun is getting national attention after throwing a perfect first pitch at the Chicago White Sox game while wearing her habit.

Sister Mary Jo Sobieck was at Guaranteed Rate Field to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Marian Catholic High School. They had a day at the ballpark and the athletic nun was asked to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. While most people in the stands likely had low expectations for the silver-haired nun, she quickly exceeded their expectations by stepping up to the mound rather than cheating by throwing from a spot closer to home plate.

The nun did an impressive trick with the ball before she threw it to the catcher and when it came time to throw the pitch, Sister Mary Jo shocked the professional baseball players watching. The former college softball center fielder reports that her fastball was clocked at 76 miles per hour in her prime!

Wow! Nobody was expecting a nun in a habit to throw such an amazing pitch! Sister Mary Jo doesn’t let her age or her wardrobe limit her. She’s still athletic and was the perfect choice to take the mound for Marian Catholic. The school teased her athletic skills a bit on Instagram to encourage people to come to the game.

This Chicago nun became a star immediately. While many are impressed by her athletic prowess, she is not letting her viral pitch go to her head. In fact, on “Good Morning America,” Sister Mary Jo explained her no excuses brand of thinking and she poked fun of the GMA hosts as well.

Sister Mary Jo sure does a better job pitching than Barack Obama. As you can see in the video below, the former president had trouble getting the ball anywhere near the plate. A nun in a habit did better!
