CEO Meets Employee Who Walked All Night To Work, Thanks Him In Coolest Way Possible

You can tell a lot about someone’s character by how they handle a challenging situation. When Walter Carr’s car broke down on his first day of work, he proved to his new employer that he was going to be a stellar employee.

While many young people would have just skipped work in a similar situation, Walter refused. He didn’t want to start off on a bad foot. He knew that the company was depending on him. He gave his word that he was going to be there and he would do anything to make that happen.

So, Walter walked through the night to get to work on time. He had taken a job with the moving company Bellhops but his home was in another town. When police saw him walking at 4 am, they picked him up and took him to breakfast before driving him the remainder of the way.

Walter arrived at the home of the moving client, Jenny Hayden Lamey, before the other movers. When Lamey heard he had been walking all night, she offered him a bed to rest in before the others showed up. Walter refused and instead of resting, he began packing Lamey’s belongings. She learned that Walter and his mom lost their home in Hurricane Katrina before moving to Birmingham and that he was a Marine.

Lamey posted about this on Facebook and it ultimately got the attention of local media. When the CEO of Bellhops, Luke Marklin, got wind of Walter’s journey to his first day of work, he knew he had a very special employee that he needed to meet.

When Marklin met Walter, he had something special for him. Walter would no longer have to walk to work. The CEO gave the young man his own car. Walter was stunned but as generous as the gift of a car is, I still find Walter’s work ethic to be more impressive. A good work ethic will take him anywhere he wants to go.
