Duggar Tradition Broken!

Joe and Kendra Duggar welcomed their son Garrett David into the world last month. But, a recent two-part special on TLC confirmed fan suspicions that the new parents broke with Duggar tradition.

The Duggar moms have home births facilitated by midwives, but Joe and Kendra decided on a different path. The couple waited with Kendra’s mom and sisters for contractions to speed up before they left to give birth in a hospital. The TLC special “Joe and Kendra’s First Baby” gave viewers a peek into the hours before and after Garrett’s birth.

Kendra had been dealing with pre-term labor for a couple of days so when the time came, she was ready to head to the hospital! This finally happened at the inconvenient hour of 2 am.

Rumors swirled online prior to the special. Fans noticed that Kendra was wearing a hospital bracelet in pictures showing off their newborn. People wondered if a hospital trip was planned all along or if there was an emergency, which has happened in prior Duggar births. Joe’s sister Jesse had to be rushed to the hospital after her midwife couldn’t contain her bleeding, so there was cause for concern. Now we know for sure that Kendra and Joe always planned a hospital birth.

Thankfully, both Garrett and Kendra are adjusting well to life as a family of three.

Jim Bob and Michelle now have 11 grand-Duggars with at least one on the way as Jinger is in her final month of pregnancy with her first child. This large family will be “Counting On” for many years to come as Jim Bob and Michelle still have so many young children.
