Queen Elizabeth made a rare decision to cancel an appearance due to her health. The 92-year-old monarch is skipping an engagement at St. Paul’s Cathedral with Angelina Jolie because of a summer cold. The Duke of Kent filled in for the Queen at Wednesday’s event.

“The Queen is feeling under the weather today and has decided not to attend this morning’s service at St Paul’s Cathedral marking the 200th anniversary of the Order of St Michael and St George,” a Buckingham Palace spokesman said.

Angelina Jolie was in attendance as a recipient of honor from the Order. The actress was likely looking forward to spending time with the Queen, but that wasn’t to be. The Order of St Michael and St George rewards distinguished service in British territories and also foreign affairs.

The Queen keeps a busy schedule, particularly given her age. Last year, she had 296 engagements. That’s an impressive attendance record, so it’s alarming to some that she canceled this important event. She doesn’t typically create a fuss about her illnesses but given she is 92-years-old, a cold can require rest. She is entitled to take a day off. Hopefully, it will only be a day and she will be feeling better soon.

Buckingham Palace has attempted to address concerns by saying no doctor has been called. She is still planning on traveling to Windsor Castle this weekend.

Two weeks ago, Queen Elizabeth participated in Trooping the Colour to commemorate her birthday. She was very visible on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, appearing healthy and enjoying the day. As you can see in the video below, Princess Charlotte was adorably taking waving lessons from her.

As the longest-serving monarch in British history, there are certainly many people praying for Queen Elizabeth’s health and wishing her a speedy recovery.
