Courtney Hadwin audition

A painfully shy 13-year-old girl whose father says she had a hard time even talking to people before she began singing shocked everyone on “America’s Got Talent” and even was compared to Janis Joplin.

Courtney Hadwin was incredibly timid and nervous as she walked on the stage so Mel B tried to put her at ease. “That’s okay to be nervous. Totally understandable,” the Spice Girl said. “Listen. Don’t be nervous. I know it’s a big stage and there’s a lot of people here, but you’re here for a reason so go for it and good luck!”

When the music began playing, the judges appeared a little surprised at the selection of a high energy song for this shy young teen. She chose Otis Redding’s “Hard to Handle” that was also covered by The Black Crowes. Courtney began dancing in the style of Mick Jagger’s jerky moves.

Everyone was absolutely stunned when this quiet child began singing. It was nothing anyone was expecting. She sounded like a legend.

After her performance was over, Simon Cowell, who often plays the role of the curmudgeon judge, was incredibly complimentary in his praise of the teen.

“Bloody hell, Courtney!” Cowell said. “You were like this shy little thing when you came out, and then you sing and you’re like a lion. I mean, genuinely incredible!”

Howie Mandel was simply thrilled to have witnessed Courtney sing. “Oh, my gosh,” he said. “You are not from this era. You’re from a whole different era.”

Mandel then spoke about how Janis Joplin was discovered at a young age at a music festival. He is a huge Joplin fan and Courtney reminds him of her. He then hit the Golden Buzzer and catapulted this kid to the live shows.

You will be blown away by Courtney’s performance in the video below.

Amazing! This isn’t Courtney’s first time in a contest of this nature. She also was on “The Voice Kids UK” last year but failed to win the top prize. The British teen is able to compete in “America’s Got Talent” as she has a visitor’s visa. Producers work with performers to ensure they have the correct performing visas if they make it to the live shows.
