royal wedding flowers hospice

It was hard to watch the Royal Wedding without thinking of Princess Diana. She loved her sons immeasurably and would be so proud of who they are today. One such reason to be proud occurred the day after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding this weekend. They would have brought a smile to the People’s Princess’s face.

There was a bounty of flowers at the Royal wedding and the bride and groom did not want them to go to waste after the festivities were over. Instead, they sent the flowers to a hospice for the patients to enjoy.

This incredibly kind gesture was greatly appreciated by the patients who are in the end stages of life. It was very touching for them to know the Duke and Duchess wanted to include them in their wedding in this very special way.

White garden roses, peonies, and foxgloves were taken to St. Joseph’s Hospice. It brightened up the facility and made the place smell radiant!

89-year-old Pauline Clayton was one of the thrilled recipients of the royal flowers. This former embroideress worked for the Queen’s dressmaker, Sir Norman Hartnell, in her younger years. Mrs. Clayton did work on the Queen’s bridal and coronation outfits many years ago, so this gift had added meaning to her. She was just 19-year-old when she did embroidery for the Queen’s wedding dress. 70 years later, she was receiving some wedding flowers from the Queen’s grandson.

Meghan Markle also sent her wedding bouquet to be placed on the Grave of the Unknown Warrior at Westminster Abbey. This tradition was begun by the Queen Mother and continued by the Royal brides that followed.
