Meghan Markle’s decision of who will walk her down the aisle tomorrow is going to cause a ratings bonanza for the Royal Wedding. After her father bailed from attending her wedding, she has asked Prince Charles to do the honors.

Thomas Markle decided not to attend his daughter’s wedding after an issue with the paparazzi and a claim of subsequent heart problems. Many people predicted the American actress would then ask her mother, Doria Ragland, to accompany her down the aisle towards Prince Harry at St. George’s Chapel. Prince Charles will have that honor instead. This is an interesting choice as Prince Charles is not only the next in line to be King of England but as a father with only sons, walking a bride down the aisle was something he likely wouldn’t have experienced otherwise.

Markle’s paternal family has caused excessive drama in the weeks and even months leading up to this historic wedding. Her older half-siblings and nephew have tried to cash in on her new position like attention seeking clowns. It’s no wonder Meghan didn’t invite them to the wedding. They would have probably created a scene. But, the choice of having Prince Charles walk her down the aisle can be seen as signifying that the Royal Family completely accepts her as their own and will fill in where her family has left a void. The Royals have rallied around Harry’s bride with pure grace.

The mother-of-the-bride met her future in-laws on Thursday. She had tea with Prince Charles and his wife Camilla. Doria Ragland has also met Prince William and Kate as well as their children. She had more time to mingle with Harry’s family at the wedding rehearsal. Meghan Markle will introduce her mother to the Queen today.

Many Royal watchers are wondering why Markle’s parents weren’t in England prior to this busy week. The Royal Family has plenty of space in their castles to accompany the American bride’s parents. Markle’s father is obviously ill-equipped to handle aggressive paparazzi. Had he been in England under the guidance of the Royal Family, last week’s unintended missteps with the media likely would not have happened.

Markle’s family drama running up to the wedding, particularly with her siblings, has many of us thinking maybe our families aren’t so messy after all. We’re just thankful Meghan will be supported on the most important day of her life.
