Meghan Markle father

The royal wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is just 10 days away, and Kensington Palace has just made an announcement about the bride’s father that has people all over the world cheering.

Because Meghan and her father Thomas Markle have been estranged in the past, rumors had been swirling for months that he would not be walking her down the aisle. That’s why it came as such good news this week when Kensington Palace confirmed that Thomas will be walking Meghan down the aisle and that she will be introducing her father to Harry days before her nuptials.

“Meghan loves her dad,” a source close to Meghan told PEOPLE. “Like any father-daughter relationship, there have been ups and downs over the years. But they are in a good place now.”

Thomas has been divorced from Meghan’s mother, yoga instructor Doria Ragland, since the 1980s and lives a quiet life in Mexico. However, a source that went to high school with Meghan at Immaculate Heart school in Los Angeles remembers him as “such a sweetheart.”

“He did the sets for our plays, which was a huge thing for us, and he would volunteer his time even after Meghan graduated. She was close with her parents. They were affectionate,” the source said.

An insider close to Meghan said that claims made by her half-brother Thomas Markle Jr. that she had left their father in financial ruin are completely false.

“She’s been supportive of him in every way, including financially. She has paid many of her father’s bills over the years,” the source said.

When announcing her engagement back in November, Meghan said that while Harry has not met her father, he has spoken with him over the phone.

“Everybody was really happy. And he’s talked to my dad a few times, hasn’t been able to meet him just yet, but it’s all been, it’s all been worth every effort,” she said.

It’s so nice to see that Meghan and her father have put their differences aside so that he can walk her down the aisle on her big day! Regardless of what has happened in the past, every father should have the experience of walking his little girl down the aisle.
